up 085: the r.e.b.i.r.t.h. [2007]

''one be lo's 's.o.n.o.g.r.a.m.' was my favorite album of 2005, so naturally my expectations for 'the r.e.b.i.r.t.h.' were high. notably, this album is quite a bit shorter than it's predecessor. one be lo's lyrics don't sound quite as personal this time around, nor is his word play any sharper. also, the production brought forth by texture (of the lab techs), k krueser, memo (of the molemen), jake one, bean one, vitamin d, eric g., d.l. jones, & 14kt (of the lab techs) leaves the album a bit scattershot, and isn't nearly as cohesive as the beats on 's.o.n.o.g.r.a.m.', which were mostly produced by the subterraneous camp - magestik legend, decompoze, & one be lo himself. there's no doubt this albums carries a different vibe.

overall, the over abundance of producers aren't meshing well with lo in the end. lo is on point, and brings some nice messages to the album, but also feels a little disconnected in the overall feel. a nice album for 2007, but not as scathing as his previous work.''

'real emcees bring intelligent rhymes to hip-hop'.

up 083: s.o.n.o.g.r.a.m. [2005]

''there aren't words. those in the know flew off the handle excited every time lo even hinted that this might finally be dropping.

of binary star underground notoriety, lo is by far the most intelligent mc you've ever heard. if he has any flaw, it's that every line is so chock full of thought: deep hip hop references, wordplay, and .... just incredible lyricism that people will miss some of it. i've played this thing easily over 1000 times and I catch something new every single time through.

if you're looking for an heir to lyricists following - and, honestly, eclipsing a tribe called quest, common, mos def, talib kweli -- (which is true hip hop, after all), you simply must pick this up. this man is the greatest mc - ever. period. i don't say that lightly, given the above company.'' - robd in indiana

hm, i don't know if i would call lo the best emcee ever.. but he's definitely one of my favorites. this album is just.. dope.

up 081: waterworld too [2001]

''with all the confusion about binary star, most people failed to realize that 'waterworld too' was not a follow up to m.o.t.u., or the first 'waterworld' lp. now we understand why groups do press-releases when they break up…

the album was titled 'waterworld too', because it was what the original 'waterworld' album was intended to be… a compilation…

only 4,000 copies of this album were pressed. so if you are fortunate enough to get a copy, then do it. someday it may be a valuable purchase, just ask all those owners of the first 'waterworld'…

''mental planes'' was recorded a year before september 11, even though the album dropped afterwards. (we caught some heat from this joint-it’s a good thing we changed the name from ''terrorist'' to ''subterraneous'')…'' - discogs.com
